The former Wakefield School has always been an important part of our community. We are committed to keeping residents informed as the property evolves and to ensuring that future development respects both the history of the site and the needs of Wakefield.
Over the past several years, we have worked closely with municipal staff, architects, planners, engineers, and community members to develop a thoughtful long-term vision for the property.
July 2026 – Educational Zoning Approved
The Municipality of La Pêche has approved the zoning amendment for the former staff building, restoring its educational use. This important milestone reopens opportunities for educational and community-based programs on the property while preserving the site's long-standing educational heritage.
We welcome inquiries from organizations interested in establishing educational programs, outdoor learning, youth camps, arts and cultural activities, professional training, or other compatible community uses. If your organization is looking for a unique campus setting in Wakefield, we would be pleased to discuss potential partnership or leasing opportunities.
Ongoing Planning for the Former School Building
Planning continues for the adaptive reuse of the original Wakefield School building as a 12-unit residential development. The project is intended to preserve the existing structure while helping address the community's need for additional housing.
Long-Term Site Planning
In collaboration with municipal planners, we are developing a comprehensive long-term plan for the entire property. This planning includes future access roads, servicing, environmental studies, and phased development so that each project contributes to a coherent vision for the site.
